SUNNY WEEKEND ADVENTURE

Before coming to Copenhagen I was told about how short the days would feel when it got dark by 4 pm. While I was prepared for this, I had no idea how much the constantly overcast weather would affect me.

Most days in Copenhagen’s winter are cold, windy and consistently cloudy. The lack of sun isn’t something I think of a lot, but when there are sunny days I feel myself immediately recharged and positive.

This past Saturday was one of those days. Not only was it sunny, but it was also “warm.” A group of people from my RC and I decided to venture out to Albertslund, outside Copenhagen to see two of the Forgotten Giants, six huge wooden sculptures of giants that are dispersed around the woods.

We took the train to Albertslund, walked around, went to the park where two of the forgotten giants are located and went to lunch. I wouldn’t consider myself a necessarily “outdoorsy” person but being outside in the sun was so therapeutic and I didn’t realize how much I needed it.

I really love that Copenhagen is a city and yet is also surrounded by nature and open spaces to walk around. I really enjoyed getting to know more people in my RC and exploring a different part of Denmark.

A lot of students who study abroad get caught up traveling around Europe. While I think this is an amazing benefit of studying abroad that I am definitely taking advantage of, I also think it’s really important to take the time to explore the city and country you have chosen to study abroad in.

Hej Hej for now!
