WHY I LOVE DIS WEDNESDAYS

Before coming to Copenhagen, Wednesdays were my least favorite day by far. I was exhausted from the beginning of the week and dreading the fact that I still had half of the week to go. But Wednesdays at DIS are becoming some of my favorite days.

DIS places a huge emphasis on learning outside of the classroom, because of this, every student has Wednesdays off. These days are used for field studies for different classes. I haven’t had any field studies so far but I’ll be sure to talk about them on here once they start happening.

Even though I haven’t had any field studies I’ve been able to use Wednesdays to explore Copenhagen with my friends. On our first Wednesday, my flatmate and I walked around Nørrebro, the neighborhood we live in. We didn’t really have a set place we wanted to visit but it was cool to get out and get to know the area we live in a little more.

This past Wednesday I started out with a meeting to get my tourist VISA for the UK. Since I’m a Colombian citizen and don’t have a US passport, I have to get a tourist VISA for my study tour to Ireland and the UK.

I was nervous before the appointment, but when I got out the sun was shining, a rare occurrence in Copenhagen’s winter days.  Because of this, I decided to walk home and later went with my flatmate on another walking tour of the city. We went to the Circle Bridge and the Church of our Savior which has the famous helix spire, even though it’s closed during the winter.

I love having a weekday to explore the city and take a break from traditional classes. I’m also definitely looking forward to all the study tours my professors have planned throughout the semester.

My biggest piece of advice is to take advantage of free time to explore the city and the area you’re living in.

just started my core course week and am in Copenhagen for the first half of the week. I’ll be heading off to Århus for the second half of the week and will be sharing everything I do once I get back.

Hej Hej for now!
